It is only awkward if you make it awkward.
The best thing to do to make yourself less nervous is to not totally plan it out. When you start getting closer and that conversation drifts off, just do it.
However you do it, be confident. And if you're so nervous that you CAN'T get yourself to be confident, at least LOOK confident. Have good posture, good breath, and a cute outfit! And don't back out! Go for it.

It really depends. If your too self conscious, it's very likely that it will show and you might feel too awkward to enjoy it. If he initiates first said kiss, just let him take the lead. On your part, you should take it slow if you can, and I'm sure he'll get the point.

well as a mom of a 15 year old I would tell you not to do that , but let him take the lead it will all be natural sweety just don't have gum in your mouth....
